OPZUID Awards €2 Million Grant to European Consortium to Solve Critical Issue of PFAS in Wastewater

EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands (29 January 2026) – – Forever Analytical, Inc., is one of five companies selected to receive a four-year, €2 million grant ($2.4 million U.S.) from the OPZUID programme, co-financed by the European Union (EFRO) and the province of Noord Brabant. The grant will fund development of a prototype system that measures, removes, and destroys PFAS in wastewater. The project, called Triple-A for detect, remove, and destroy in Dutch, commenced on 1 January 2026.

The complexity of PFAS and the threat it poses to global health is driving this critical programme. Thus, each of the Triple-A consortium partners bring specific expertise to the initiative: Forever Analytical, rapid detection of total fluorine; NX Filtration, PFAS removal; No Waste Systems, PFAS destruction; Turbin, system integrator; and University Utrecht, serving as an academic partner focusing on destruction. Two additional parties have been selected to support the project with samples and test facilities: waste treatment specialist Attero and water authority De Dommel.

PFAS, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances that are synthetic organofluorine chemical compounds, are widely considered a threat to human health and the environment. The combination of PFAS contamination of water resources couple with decreased supply and increased demand of fresh water have resulted in increased urgency to find solutions that strengthen Europe’s water resilience.

Forever Analytical European Director Cor Datema expressed gratitude to the OPZUID programme, commenting, “We are delighted to have received this generous subsidy. With our strong consortium partners, we are sure that we will make a great success of this project. For the Triple-A project we will develop a direct measurement system for inline PFAS sampling during the removal and destruction process. We plan to hire up to four full-time team members to work on this much-needed solution to PFAS contamination.”

Forever Analytical is the first company to commercialize Particle-Induced Gamma-ray Emission (PIGE) technology for PFAS detection. This proton-beam innovation dramatically reduces the PFAS screening time and cost, making it feasible for large-scale applications. Rapid PFAS testing services that detect thousands of types of PFAS across the industry’s broadest range of solids and liquid materials and products are offered to customers around the world.

About Forever Analytical, Inc.
